The 2024 iQwembi Cycle Challenge

The 2024 RECLAM IQWEMBU CYCLE CHALLENGE will be open to both TEAMS and INDIVIDUALS

  • The cycle race will take place on the M4 Freeway in Durban with Full Road Closure
  • The Race will start at 7am and the cut-off will be at 11:00 (4hrs)
  • The Start and Finish will take place next to the Kings Park Swimming Pool (Promenade directly opposite to the Moses Mabhida Stadium)
  • Registration will take place on Saturday 31st August at CYCLELAB Cornubia 10am – 3pm
  • Race Entry Cut off will be Monday August 25th at midnight

 

  • Cyclists can enter the TEAM EVENT which comprises

– Teams of 8 persons to enter the 80km (Men/Ladies/Mixed Teams) (4 to finish to claim a result – if mixed team – at least 1 must be a lady

– Teams of 4 persons to enter the 40km (Men/Ladies/Mixed Teams) (3 to finish to claim a result – if mixed team – at least 1 must be a lady)

– Teams of 2 persons to enter the 20km (Men/Ladies/Mixed Teams) (2 to finish to claim a result – if mixed team – 1 male 1 female)

 

  • Cyclists can enter the EVENT as an individual (the event will limited to x amount of individuals as this is primarily a team event – first come first serve

– Individuals can enter the 80km or 40km or 20km

  • TT Bikes – Road Bikes – Mountain Bikes – Gravel Bikes are allowed for the TEAM EVENTS
  • No TT bikes are bars allowed for the individual event (e-bikes are allowed)
  • There will be 1 water point on the route situated about 400m from the start/finish area
  • Here TEAMS may also second their riders on the route in the demarcated Team Area
  • The Route is multiple laps of 20km (10km out towards La Lucia – u-turn and then head back towards Durban on the closed to traffic M4)
  • START TIME is 7am with teams going off first with individuals to follow next (this info to be relayed once registration is complete and final race details are released – start times will be up on www.finishtime.co.za
  • Each rider entered will received a complimentary pair of custom sox as well as a finish medal at the end
  • Prizes, medals and trophies to be awarded to the top place finishers

TEAM ENTRY RULES

Team of 8 MEN

– At least 5 of the team have to cross the line together – if a team-mate drops off – they get given the same time but cannot re-join the team at a later stage

– those Team mates that drop off will be given the same finish-time as their team-mates

Team of 8 Woman

– Same rules applies to the ladies – 5 riders must finish

Mixed Team of 8

– the Team must include at least 2 ladies

– of the 5 that cross the line together – at least 1 must be a woman

Team of 4 Men

– 3 to finish in this event

Team of 4 Woman

– 3 to finish in this event

Mixed Team of 4

– at least 1 of the 4 entries is a lady

– of the 3 that finish – 1 has to be a lady

Team of 2 man – 2 man and mixed (1 lady 1 gent) both have to finish the race to claim a finish time

Individuals will start once the teams have set of

Team of 8 first – Teams of 4 second – Teams of 2 third then the remaining individuals
