General Rules & Regulations
The following rules and regulations are allied to the participation criteria for the KZN Cycling Schools Road Series and are to be viewed in conjunction with the general series information.
It must be noted that all standard rules and regulations applicable for road cycling events staged under the auspices of Cycling South Africa will apply, and these regulations do not supersede these existing rules.
- Participation in the series events is open to both male and female riders
- Riders from the age of 10 years old may take part in the series final
- The maximum age for participation in the final is 18 years of age
- Participants may compete using any form of recognised bicycle save for E-bikes
- The series final will have category prize winners in each distance – these being road bikes and mountain bikes
- The top three finishers in each category and in each age group will be acknowledged
- Riders may take part in as many of the qualifying events in the series as they chose, but will need to take part in at least one of the series events in order to be considered for the series final
- Twenty five riders per age category (per gender) from each of the series qualifying events will qualify to take part in the series final
- Rider’s qualification will count from one event only
- Should a rider not take part in one of the qualifying events but still wish to take part in the aQuellé Tour Durban, they may do so as a standard entrant but will not be permitted to take part in the series final race.
- Should a rider have already qualified for the final at any previous event, but still place in the top twenty five of the additional qualification events, their place in the series final will be given to the next rider on the results lists
- The series final will be staged at the aQuellé Tour Durban and the respective distances for each age category will be as follows:
- U13: 28km
- U15: 42km
- U18: 68km
- Each of these racing groups will accommodate a maximum of 100 x riders (per gender) at the series final
- The 200 qualified riders per distance start in their own batch and will have a race commissaire and attendant race security measures
- No riders taking part in the event may integrate themselves in the racing group nor may a rider be assisted in any way by any rider not in their racing group
- Riders should take part in the race distance closest to their series final race category when they take part in the various qualifying events
- If a rider does not qualify for the series final in their category, they may still take part in the series final in the school’s participation competition – this competition being for schools that enter the most riders in the event
- Should a rider take part in a qualifying event in 2025 and qualifies for the final but then leaves school at the end of the year, they may still take part in the final in a designated “old boys and girls” category
- The entry fees for each qualifying event will be as per the rules of each of the events in the series and entry will be managed as per the regulations of each of these events
- Entry into the aQuellé Tour Durban for the series final will be done through the event entry system and a special schools final entry fee will apply for all qualified riders with this fee being set at R400 per entrant regardless of the distance they are competing in
